A few weeks ago we shared some father-daughter dance song ideas. Finding those perfect songs for special dances can be a challenge. We think this is especially true for mother-son dance songs. While brides may have spent time (maybe even years) thinking about what the perfect father-daughter dance song would be for her, guys don’t seem to do that. In fact, we have met many a groom has waits until the very last minute to try and find a song for his mother-son dance. To help you and your groom along, we are sharing some mother-son dance song ideas to make the search a little easier.
This song was originally sung by Elton John, but Ellie Goulding is great too. We chose Goulding’s recording because it’s a little fresher and since it’s a mother-son dance, having a woman’s voice seems perfectly appropriate. The lyrics are so beautiful.
Admittedly, we already shared this one in our father-daughter dance song ideas post. But, come on, this is SO good! Don’t be surprised if your new mother-in-law starts crying on the dance floor.
I’ve mentioned this before, but, it’s worth saying again. Michael Bublé is my favorite singer and I think that so many of his songs are perfect for moments throughout the wedding day. So, if you’re looking for wedding music, browsing through Michael Bublé’s albums is a good place to start.
Can you really go wrong with Aretha Franklin? I mean, she’s a classic. I love this song for a mother-son dance because as a boy mom myself, this is exactly how I feel.
(Side story: I used to belt this song at the top of my lungs when I was a kid. And my favorite scene in My Best Friend’s Wedding is when they sing this song in the restaurant).
Ok, this one is not going to be for everyone. But if your groom and his mother want to do a choreographed dance, this song is so much fun. It’s also newer, and won’t be expected at all so it will make an impression.
This song is so sweet. And it’s such a sweet message of love, family, and support.
Here’s an oldie, but such a goodie. This song is perfect for a classic, upbeat song.
If you’re wanting to keep your wedding really classy, this song is perfect. The lyrics are perfect for a mother-son dance. Also, the beat is easy to dance (or sway) to for those that don’t feel that confident in their foot work.
Your groom may hear this song and think, “that perfectly describes my mom”. If so, then this song is likely perfect for his mother-son dance.
The 90s trends are trending again. So why not throw it back to your childhood with a Spice Girls song? The words are also so sweet.
Here’s another throwback. And with the Backstreet Boys making comeback, this might just be perfect for your groom and his mom. The lyrics might be exactly what your groom wants to say to his mom.
Roberta Flack’s song is so pretty. I love the lyrics and think it is perfect for a mother-son dance. Although it is an old song, it’s also not that common, so will be a little different.
This song is a popular mother-son dance song. So if your groom wants to
Here’s another Michael Bublé song (I told you I love Michael Bublé’s music). This song is so sweet too and I think both mother and son would love this song.
And another Ellie Goulding song too. This song is so great. I love the sentiments in this song. They beautifully express a mother’s love. In fact, I sing this song to my son all the time.
Any Breakfast at Tiffany’s fans here? (I love any movie that has Audrey Hepburn in it). And really, this classic is just perfect for your mother-in-law if she loves those classic movies.
Mom is another fun, upbeat song. This would also be great for a choreographed dance. It’s not for everyone, but we know it’s perfect for someone.
This one is for the country music fans. Reba is iconic and this song is great for the guy who takes after his mom.
This is taking it way back. Maybe even so far back that you haven’t heard this song before. But I love this song so much and think it really is a perfect song for a mother-son dance. If your groom is a man of few words, this could be just right for him.
How could we leave Adele out? She wrote this song for her son and it’s just so sweet. If your mother-in-law wants the mother-son dance song to be a message to her son, this just might be it.
Alright, one more country song. But this one is also great (even if you aren’t usually a big country music fan). Godspeed is such a beautiful song for a mother to dance to her son to.
